Having returned from my weekend in Wales (see gallery below) I had a couple of weeks off from work and was able to enjoy some amazing days close to home.

The foggy mornings made for beautiful moody shots, and the evenings had some terrific colours. Thankfully I had been left in photography mode after Wales and spent more time with my camera and out and about than in my home.

After a longish break I enjoyed a long weekend with some same-minded people on the Gower peninsula in the South of Wales - once again under the guidance of .

And once again it was the hunt for the early morning and evening lights. It may sound ungrateful after a rather poor summer - but initially the weather was just too good, hardly a cloud in the sky. But we all managed to get some beautiful photos of sunrises and sunsets. The two black and white images shown in this gallery are - more or less - the result of accidental clicks within Photoshop.

GALLERY DESCRIPTION

This gallery is a collection of photos taken over a couple of years. Though capital of Scotland and rather close to home I have only discovered a small section of the city, and usually in spring or winter time when it is not so overrun by tourists.

A recent visit of friends from Germany left me with the task of planning some sight-seeing. Taking my friends around the city made me realise that there are actually plenty more nooks in Edinburgh worth a visit. The gallery covers a small part of the city centre only, including a few photos of last Christmas.

My first visit to this country. As I neither knew it nor spoke the language I opted for a photography holiday, arranged and guided by . The main part of the holidays was reserved for photographing the temples of Angkor. Some of the temples are famous because they have played their part as a background for movies. And some are known because of the pictures taken of the trees and their roots growing down the ruins' walls.

As a lucky coincidence would have it Cambodia was celebrating the Water Festival once more (after it had been cancelled the three previous years), with Siem Reap certainly joining into the festivities. And so were we.

Part of the same holidays described above, but this was one day away from Siem Reap and Angkor. We were visiting the floating village of Prek Toal on Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in South-East Asia (once the Mekong River has filled it). The day was organised by , an organisation who is supporting the community in various and marvellous ways.

The day started with a short visit to a local fish market. The merchants were concentrating on their deals and not on us taking photographs. Once on the lake I had plenty of time to capture impressions of the village life, including a trip to some of the houses by wooded canoes.

Before continuing my holidays in Cambodia (see the two galleries above) I spent four days in Singapore. Coincidental I had been in Singapore in June already but that had been for work. However, that earlier visit really made me look forward to this part of my holidays.

Singapore is hardly about landscape photography. It is densely populated and developed. But it is an ideal backdrop for urban and night photography with stunning structures and buildings. And because of its friendly inhabitants (and invisible security) it is safe to roam the streets of the city with a camera - even at nighttime.

The winter before I had searched for places to spend holidays in 2014. Based on amazing photos on other photographers' websites I decided to organise myself a week in the Provence at the beginning of July when the lavender is supposed to be in full bloom.

I stayed in a cottage between Roussillon and Lioux and travelled to the attractive villages of the Luberon and beyond including Gordes, Lacoste, Roussillon and Simiane-la-Rotonde, with even a day in (a completely packed) Avignon. I even had my early start to join the crowds of photographers to get a good shot at the abbey near Gordes with its lavender fields.

There are a handful of small and picturesque villages along the south coast of Fife, east of Leven. They still have their operating harbours and when looked at fleetingly they can pass as normal fishing villages, even though over the years plenty of the small houses have been bought by the rich people from Edinburgh.

Along the coast the light, clouds and colours can be absolutely magical. There is a lot to photograph, for example wee cottages, fishing boats and gear, quays, breakers and colourful sunsets. There is always something to catch the photographer's eye.

This is a collection of "the rest" of Scotland, i.e. places I visited in Scotland between 2013 and 2014 apart from the Fife fishing villages and Edinburgh. I admit that it can hardly be called comprehensive but anybody who has been motoring through Scotland knows that travelling here can be time consuming. Unfortunately my spare time is limited and has to be allocated to more than one activity, a lot of them less pleasant than photography.

GALLERY DESCRIPTION

Pretty much the same idea as the one above, only that the photos were taken before 2013.

GALLERY DESCRIPTION

This gallery covers a two week holiday on the South Coast of England, one week in the vicinity of Portsmouth, Salisbury and the New Forest and one week near Plymouth, covering parts of Cornwall.

I have included photos from the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth, Salisbury Cathedral, Hurst Castle, Antonys Passage, St. Michaels Mount, the Eden Project and Cotehele House.
